I've been charged 172.60 for a "free" nhs dental

I had a checkup a few months ago as was entitled to it with universal credit.

Completed the form but as they didn't have an option for UC I ticked "income based JSA" as advised to do by the JCP.

Fast forward a few months and I've just received a letter saying my details have been passed to a debt collection agency on behalf of the NHS and now need to pay 172.06:eek:

Surely they could have just looked up that I was on UC and not IJSA?

Its a huge bill for a 10 minute checkup that I only had because it was free and hadn't had one in years :(

What happens if I dont pay this bill?

If a couple with three kids who at the moment the husband is working. But he knows the company will soon be liquidated.

He will have to claim jsa soon.

The wife never worked for years, she is a housewife and full time mother.

Do both husband and wife have to go and sign on together? Or just one of them?

The youngest child is 4

Universal credit LCWRA when returning to work

Hello everyone

I am after a bit of help with universal credit.

I have been out of work for a while due to mental health issues (depression and social anxiety). I am 46 and It has been a bit of a bolt out of the blue for me because I have been in work since I was 16 and had never suffered with these kind of issues before.

I have been claiming universal credit for 18 months now and was placed in the LCWRA group.

I feel I have now come out the other side and have been actively looking for work. I have now been offered a job but it would mean relocating to another area. I am happy with this and find the move exciting.

However, my query is this. While I am happy that I am able to go back to work what would happen if the symptoms returned? If I found after a couple of months I couldn't cope and was forced to leave the job what would be the situation with universal credit? Would I, in effect, be starting a new claim in a new area and need a new assessment if applying for LCWRA again. Or would I just automatically go back on to my current benefits?

If I understand it right, once I start work you don't automatically stop UC, you just don't receive anything while you are above a certain threshold. So, if after a couple of months I had to leave my job so never received any money for the subsequent qualifying period, do I just start receiving UC again?

Obviously hoping none of this will apply but just trying to think ahead.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tax credits help

Hi,

My hubby has started a better paying job and I am a carer for my dd so claim carers allowance. Our yearly gross income is more this year than last so we have a 2,500.00 disregard.

My hubby's company is putting pressure on him to do regular overtime which is great but obviously our wtc would go down. I have done lots of workings out and it looks like busting a gut with overtime is just not worth while, my calculations are working out that we would be better off money wise if he refused overtime because the more you earn the less help you get.

My question is once you are no longer entitled to wtc do HMRC start skimming of ctc with their taper system?

TIA x

Universal Credit

Hi,

I've got a question which I can't for the life of me find an answer for somebody who has been in a similar situation, so here goes!

I'm currently earning around £28,500 per year from my job, myself and my partner have a 2 year old and a 0 year old. Currently were not entitled to any help apart from child benefit which my partner receives in her account.

Due to reasons which I don't particularly want to discuss, I can not bear to continue my current job anymore. I've been offered a new job for less money, which will be brilliant compared to my current job, however it is 10k less a year.

My question is, will I be entitled to universal credit if I took this new job? I've done the calculations on turn2us and entitled to and it says we would be, however I'm unsure as technically I'll be volunteering to have a lower salary?

However I feel I can no longer be happy at my current job?

I did phone citizens advice and they did mention the words deprevation of capital, but I'm not sure they understood my query completely. I did Google this and I'm unsure if this would apply in our situation?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just to reiterate, I wouldn't be leaving my job to a less paid job in order to claim universal credit (incase anyone judges), it would be for my own health and sanity, and this could help out until I found a better paid job.

Thanks in advance!

If you have had mental illness in the past are you required by law to update your condition currently to your doctor?

Is it best to update your condition with your doctor in case any authority contacts the doctor for information on your condition?

Are doctors required by law to inform patients that the authority is contacting them for information do you consent?

Please help, UC and new style/Contribution based ESA

Hi,

If anyone can please help I would be so greatful.

I am in the universal credit assessment phase but I think I will eventually be placed in the LCFWRA group. I get PIP at the moment which is standard rate for both parts. I left my job as my disability has got a lot worse and I cannot manage any longer.

My questions are

If I have enough contributions, can I claim new style esa which is contribution based as well as universal credit?

I know it's five weeks until I will get my first UC payment but I saw online that someone said it takes up to 14/16 weeks to get the LCFWRA part, is that right?

Thanks very much,

T

Pension Credit - with house

Hi My parents are splitting in the mid 70's. They own a bungalow and my mum wants to sign her half of the the house over to myself and siblings so my father can continue to live in it - as he has restricted mobility. Currently the house is an asset for pension credit but if my mother does this can she access pension credit - or is this seen as deprivation of assets?

Any advice would be so welcome as we are just trying to find a way to keep dad in the bungalow..

Many thanks

Child Tax Credits (Nursery)

Hi,

Can someone please help??

We are trying to claim tax credits for childcare during the change over to universal credit. My partner and I get no other benefit other than child benefit.

When we look on the calculator it states our combined wage is too much to claim - without relying on family we cannot pay child care.

We were under the impression the tax credits were worked on the previous years earnings, but with two job changes this year we are having a VERY MINOR pay-rise, but it appears to have flagged up and feel we're at risk of losing what little we do get?

Thanks

Child tax credits help

$

So I have just started a new job after been out of work for 5 years, we have been claiming child tax credits which this year was calculated at 289 every 4 weeks.

I entered my change of circumstance online and told them the hours I would be doing and the pay and they have said I am still entitled to 109 every 4 weeks, this seems a lot and I've called them up to check and they have said it's correct. I'm worried that come next year they have said I have been overplayed and will and up having to pay it back !,

Another thing is that there is always overtime going at work and how would this effects the tax credits and how to I declare it ? Obviously it wouldn't be the same each month and some months I might not even get any.

Any help is much appreciated thank you

Previously not aware of benefits

I was not aware I was eligible for benefits, turns out I could have claimed for the last few years but I am not longer eligible. Has anyone successfully backdated their claim?

Online it says just one month. When I called they told me its spread through word of mouth but surely there are lots of other people like myself that had never heard of all of this before?

I've just been going through some previous council tax correspondence and noticed that for one year we received a Council Tax Liability Reduction of 20%. Anyone know what is is or why it was applied to that year but not previous years? We are just a regular married couple with 2 kids and can't think of any circumstances that have changed.

Income or Contribution ESA

Hi, hope someone can help.
I received a letter from DWP to say they are going to call me to see if I should have been on Income Related ESA rather than Contriburion based ESA for the last 5 years!
Whilst I know I will be entitled to free prescriptions/dentist etc by changing over, I am more concerned that IR is means-tested , and as I receive a monthly private pension my income from ESA will be reduced by this change.
I also have a carer, so do not believe I would be entitled to any back pay from missed premiums from being on CB rather than IR after all these years, but if they decide I should have been on IB, then I would surely owe the DWP money instead?
It’s a worrying time as I have just transitioned from DLA to PIP and been refused the high rate mobility component, so am having to go to tribunal over that, so all this DWP business is stressing me out. :(
Can anyone give me advice on this please?

Many thanks
