Advise on UK Tax as living abroad

$

I have been living abroad for the last 6 years and buried my head in the sand when it came to sorting out our taxes.
We rent out a property in joint names and the tennants pay slightly less than we pay on the mortgage. We still have a mortgage but this will be paid in full in the coming weeks and will keep our UK home.
My husband has a UK pension which is still taxed, i have no UK income.
We have not advised HMRC we out of the country and will be doing so in the coming weeks.
Can anyone advise me please will we be fined for not completing any forms? What forms should i complete? How will they work this out and any rough ideas if there are any fines what these could be please as trying to gain as much information as possible first to have a rough idea where we might stand.
Will HMRC offset the taxes paid on my husbands pension against what we owe?
I am also cashing in a pension plan so initially this is taxed - i presume not being in the uk and not having a UK income i will at a later date be ale to claim that tax back?

Thank you in advance

PIP Review.

I submitted a PIP form last September and finally got to see one of the Atos people face to face in February this year. I was awarded the low rate for personal needs. I have never claimed benefits in my life before as I have always worked as a plasterer until my Osteoarthritis in both knees became too unbearable to continue, I'm 63 years old.

Later in February of this year I underwent a total knee replacement where I am still finding it difficult to move around despite little pain from my new knee whilst walking. I do have stiffness like never before.

I have today received another form to complete asking about changes since my award in February of this year. The questions appear to be the same on this form as they was on the form I completed last September.

From my current position very little has changed, I'm still in pain with my left knee and can't walk very far.

I shall complete this form but, I do suspect they got the gist of my new knee and believe this would be a perfect opportunity to remove me from this benefit. Has anyone else received the same form.

Kind regards Jeff.

Hoping that someone can give some advice.

Mum recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the stomach, and at the moment we are waiting for consultant to confirm what the best treatment will be.

Mum owns her own house.

What would she be entitled to any benefits?

DWP using Facebook messenger

Good afternoon all.

I had a rather confusing experience last week.I received confirmation of receipt of my fit note from DWP via text (as per usual) and within a couple of seconds an unusual purple icon popped up on the screen of my phone.

I opened it and it was a message from DWP sent via Facebook messenger. It was the chat head icon that had popped up on my phone. The message was exactly the same as the text I received and also contained all the messages the DWP had ever sent me via text.

Is this standard? Are the DWP using Facebook messenger to send messages now? I have a fairly common name so I'm not sure how they even found the correct profile to message me. I'm very confused about this whole thing.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Universal credits - change of circumstances

Hi,

Could you please advise how I inform the DWP that one of my children has ceased further education? When I logged into my UC account I couldn't see this option on the 'report a change' page.

I tried calling but gave up after 30minutes.

I've left a journal entry on the UC account as a last resort.

Surely this is a common change - but I can't see how to report it!?

thanks.

Lha rate divorced father with son

Ok it's a long story but basically I'm divorced twice. I have 3 kids with my first ex aged 14 16 18 I see weekends then after my last wife had a affair I moved out of our council home and see our son aged 11 weekends. Now 2 years on I'm in a new relationship my partner has 2 girls under 10. I have been trying to have more contact with my son then just weekends so to do this we have moved local to my son just a few streets away but it's private rent and based on me and my partner plus 2 girls our lha rate is 2 bedrooms however I'm going to be having my son live with me 50 percent of the time

My ex wife at the moment has a lha rate for 3 bed and full tax credits based on this plus low council rent as a father of 4 with a partner now who also has 2 kids is there anyway I can at least have my lha rate changed to 3 bed I work full time I don't care about spliting tax credits but for private renting costs my son stays with me so I feel I should atleast have my rent calc based on 3 bed lha rate

Btw My ex wife allows me 50% contact but I guess out of fear of tax credit cuts to her ill never have it in writing..I have moved basically a few streets away from our son so he can stay and vist us whenever he wishers any help would be great as with paying £1000 private rent and a lha rate of £500 it seems so unfair to fathers just trying to move fwd

Pay rise causes loss in benefits

Hi, my husband was offered a pay rise, which he happily accepted. We claim housing benefit, child tax credit and council tax benefit. I knew our benefit would change but I stupidly thought we would be slightly better off every month. Now the results are in and because my husband earns £280 more per month we lose £250 housing benefit, £200 child tax credit and our council tax increases by £66 per month. So in total we are now worse off by £225 per month. How can this be right?? I don't know how to cope with that much less coming in every month. Any suggestions please?

Jsa payment missing?

Hi guys just a quick heads up/ rant at dwp

Basically I was on jsa previously and signed off as I was starting a new job. The job never came in end as I was kept waiting to go in and start date was being pushed back every couple of days. In end I went 2 weeks with no work and no benefits just our child benefit and child tax credits to live on so I made a reclaim back onto jsa.

I also made a claim for working tax credits which was awarded on the following day of me making a new jsa claim. Which I've now phoned up and cancelled the working tax credits.

I attended my jobcentre interview over 3 weeks ago and was advised to phone jsa up a couple of days later to see if thwe had processed my claim and to see if there was any payment due as I had gone 4 weeks with no money, I spoke to jsa and was advised that there was 1 weeks money due which they could release on same day payment. Great I thought then they told me it was £58 when I queried it is was told it was due to me receiving wtc. I told them that I'd already cancelled it.

Anyway I signed on again Tuesday this week and was supposed to have my jsa yesterday but upon checking my bank yesterday morning nothing was there. So over an hour on phone to them. They said that they could see my everdance was on the system but for some reason my payment wasn't released and someone would phone me back within 3 hours to sort it.

2.5 hours later I gets a call off a withheld number and it was the benefits section confirming that my payment hadn't been released. When I asked how much they said £116. I turned round then and said I should be getting 2 weeks money and they said it was and I'm being deducted for other money coming in. I told them I've only got child tax and child benefit as the working tax had been cancelled. And they advised me to contact tax credits. Anyway they said they will send the payment out to me on a same day transfer and will clear in my bank by midnight but most of time withing a couple of hours.

Turns out nothing cleared in my bank yesterday and just checked my bank again (Saturday morning ) and still nothing here. I've tried phoning them and surprise surprise there shut.

So they have left a very vulnerable family (myself.wife and 4 children(1 child under the mental hospital )) with no money no food and using friendly credit on both gas & electric.

We've got no family to turn round to and have borrowed of close friends and we had to relia on the local food Bank the last 2 weeks as we've only had £58 jsa in the last 6 weeks :... (

New DWP claim help

Hi everyone

Have just received my first letter back from DWP detailing my claim for my son who is autistic I have been granted middle rate care along with lower rate mobility

Now I have 2 questions

1# is there a good website that details any extra benefits my sons entitled to now? I know it’s not much as he only gets lower mobility just want to make sure I’m not missing anything? Like help with days out etc?

2# my claim is only backdated 1 month but I originally contacted DWP last october! When they firstly sent out the wrong form... and then finally sent the correct form but we couldn’t fill in due to information not being ready ie my son hadn’t been officially diagnosed for autism by midland physiology... but we had been told to make DWP aware before hand.
Can I get the rest backdated?

Cheers

Council Tax Reduction Decision Notice Backdated Letters.

Hi All

I was recently transferred has a single persons UC claimant and also applied for CTR.Today I received three letters from my council.

Page 1 is talking about my dla benefit, and below my usual amount there is DP £47.80 and a CPA £114.85 both for couples, no idea where these two came from? Always got dla but there seems to be a added payments. Both my name and partners was included in the CTR form we filled out a while ago.

Page 2
From Apr 2014 - 31 Mar 2015 right up each year to Mar 2019 it has info about working Age Scheme (Protected) Period reduction etc with the amount of my local councils yearly tax bill.

Both page 1-2 say benefit has been backdated, Reason for calculation.

Is this a refund in to my bank account? And will the dla couples payments be going in monthly from now on. Or is it just wishful thinking from my end.

Thanks in advance
Vasim

Picking best date to start Universal Credit

First of all can someone just confirm this is right...

When you apply for Universal credit, the date you apply is the start date of your first assessment period.

Eg. if i applied today (4th August) the first assessment period would run from 4th Aug to 3rd Sept. Payment would be around 10th Sept.

Also, are tax credits (CTC and WTC) calculated up until the day you apply for UC?

Eg. If our most recent CTC payment was on 28th July, would we get 1 more weeks worth of CTC or would the 28th July payment be our last? I'm not sure if CTC, WTC, and HB are paid up front or in arrears.

I'm asking because our existing tax credits and housing benefit are paid at different times throughout the month and i'm wondering if there is a date that would be better to apply for UC on depending on when we've received the existing benefit payments.

Any help, much appreciated.

Housing benefit overpayments

We are currently paying back an overpayment of housing benefit which will be cleared in January 2019. If we switch to Universal credit in the next few weeks or so, how is the outstanding overpayment cleared? Do they deduct from UC payments?

Housing benefit - moving areas and family premium

Hi there

I would appreciate if anyone could help me. I rent my house and since 2012 have been claiming housing benefit. I have a daughter and receive the family premium.

I am looking to move to a nicer area but in a different local authority (Wakefield). My questions are:

Will I still be entitled to the family premium? I understand I have to put in a new claim with Wakefield Council.

Will I have to move over to Universal Credit? My moving and making a new housing benefit claim will be seen as a change in circumstance and trigger a move to UC?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just wondering

Wages overpayment

Hi. My daughter changed jobs and her last employer paid her a whole month's too much money. As a result her new universal claim was stopped. She realised when she saw her payslip and has put the money aside to repay the employer. However this has left her without universal credit and she has had to reapply for benefit. Presumably she will get the next months benefit but does anyone know if she is likely to get money back dated from start of new job? She has had to get an advance from Universal credit but of course this will have to be repaid and so she may be left short. She can't get a definite answer from helpline. Many thanks.

Question on child benefit entitlement

$

Hi,

I'm just a bit confused about how the calculator works which looks at how much you are entitled to claim for a child. Basically, myself and my partner are expecting a baby in December and I was looking to see what we are entitled to claim while she is on maternity.

Our combined annual salary would be somewhere around the 35k mark, however, when she is on maternity that would obviously be significantly reduced. But looking at the calculator it asks what she earned for the previous tax year. Why is this relevant? Surely being on maternity pay is the main factor as that is the reason why we would need the help in the first place.

The calculator came back with us not being entitled to anything, which I find shocking. We are home owners and both on ok wages but like I said that will be reduced shortly. I'm just looking for a bit of advice on how the process works. Surely we have to be entitled to something? I'm just confused as to why we have to say how much we earned last year, when it's what we will be earning at the time that is the problem.

Any help would be excellent.

Benefits when coming back to UK

My sister left the UK in Jan 2016 to move to Turkey, she got married to a Turkish man (they'd been together a while before she moved), and had a baby. She was unable to work in Turkey due to the type of visa she had out there, so relied on her husbands wages to live.

Her husband is still in Turkey, and no plans for him to come to the UK, as things aren't working out between them. Their baby has dual citizenship and a UK passport.

Prior to leaving she had a full time job, but now she has a baby (5 months), so doesn't really want to work straight away as she wants to take some time with her son. She moved in with my mum so doesn't have rent to pay.

Does anyone know if she needs to wait a certain period of time before she can claim child benefit / income support to support her and her baby? Or will she have to wait 3 months?

Will HB use net or gross pay rise

Hi,

Im getting a pay rise at work through promotion.
My income currently is £12,250 per annum part time 24hours, my new income will be £16,000 32 hours a week so a little over the 2500 income disregard on tax credits
My question is this will housing benefit/tax credit use gross or net per annum? If they use net pay figure i should qualify for the 2500 income disregard? I just concerned i will be worse off.

Another HB question!

Hi there

I have put in previous post I am considering moving to a different local authority so would have to cancel my claim and put new one in with new local authority.

I am currently paid HB 2 weeks in arrears. If I moved on 31 Aug would my HB be paid up to that date - ie, would still get a payment in Sept as paid in arrears? Also is there a 4 week roll on period where you get paid 4 weeks after your claim is cancelled or is that tax credits?

Many thanks
