Hi,
Just a quick question for you lovely people out there who can help.
We have an agreement with tax credits to pay back an overpayment at £10 a month, this was back in June 12, the agreement states final payment to be made 18/02/2025 the full amount was for 1,500. Now I know its a long time to pay back but that was agreed back then..Now only last week I recieve one of those letters from HMRC saying "We have not made a payment"..so I call up with all the payment details from the Bank, HMRC then say its there mistake very sorry...then ask If we can pay any more a month! We are lost for words..I explained to the lady at HMRC that we have not won the lottery.. My Husband is working I am expecting my 2nd child now, so there is no way we can pay more...
The question I would like to ask is can they Legally ask us to pay more when we have an agreement in Black & white?
I thank you all for your time. x:rotfl:

I'm starting up my own electricians service, will do no work in the house I live, and supplies will not be stored there instead will pick upo from wholesalers, do I need to tell the housing association?
I would assume not, but on the housing benefit paperwork, i remember if you were self employed you have to give the business address, well obviously that's where i live even though theres no business activity here (bar book keeping).
I don't wanna not tell the Housing Association, then they find out via the housing benefit and I get in trouble.
Anyone have advice?

Hi all, could someone offer me some advice please.
I care for a child that is not my own but have parental responsibility through a court order. Im due to be given a lump sum from criminal injuries compensation amounting to around 18k. This money is being awarded for loss of parental services. There is a separate sum being held in trust.
the money essentially belongs to the child but Is being paid to me for use for his benefit. (This seems to be a fairly loose term, ie I could use it to purchase a caravan for family holidays) I would like some accessible but the majority put away till he is 18 but not in his name.
Im currently on IS and CTB/HB.
Does anyone know how this compensation will affect my benefits.

I'm really struggling to find information on this, so I hope someone can help.
I am currently employed on a 0-hour contract. Previously I have been receiving shifts totally around 12-16 hours a week. However, recently the shifts are been dropping to around 8 hours or less. Compounded by travel expenses badly eating into my pay, a very poor working atmosphere and home-life being incredible stressful at the moment, I really want to leave this job and look for another. Some might say to just look for a job while I'm currently employed here, but working here is causing me great stress.
I've read about the 26 week JSA suspension for voluntarily leaving a job, but is there anything different that applies in this situation? I have been in a similar situation previously where I worked casually and the shifts dried up. I didn't have any problems claiming on that occasion, but there's was a big gap between the shifts ending and me making my claim, so I'm not sure if that affected it.
Any help anyone could provide would be a godsend. Thank you!

Hi I'm just looking for some advice.
Me and my partner moved from Bournemouth to birmingham in feb 2010, I have 3 children from a previous relationship and 1 with my current partner,
At the time my partners mum was viewing homes for us and picked the current home we are in
We pay £775 per month for a 4 bed, 2 bath. 2 reception roomed house
There has been a lot of problems with the house and a very lazy landlord, has caused a lot of stress.
When we first moved here we were both working and only had 3 children to feed.
I got made redundant and we now have a 4th child to feed. This means that find the rent, council tax and utility bills is beyond our means now and we are currently 6 weeks behind on the rent.
We only need a 3 bed house but due to my credit rating and our distinct lack of money there's no way we can private rent somewhere else.
I was just wondering if there is anyway the council will help me??
Many thanks

We currently get a small amount each month in child tax credit and as it's come toward the end of the year I was looking to see if there was anything I need to be aware of for next year. All I could find out is that child tax credit will be replaced by universal credit but nothing much about how it will work or how much we will get, there isn't a calculator or anything. How do I find out if I will still get anything next year??

Hi folks, looking for some advice if possible? My dad has just received his letter stating that his ESA appeal has been refused and that he is no longer entitled to ESA. He has been receiving the lower rate since October 2012. He gets higher rate DLA but I'm wondering what he can do now. In so worried about him and fear this is going to make his mental health worse. Any advice would be much appreciated! xx

A quick question, please :)
As a home educator, our LEA has agreed just short of £8,000 towards my childrens education for this year.
This will take my account over the £16,000 limit for benefits once I put the cheque in the bank.
As this cheque is specifically to be spent on their education and cannot be spent on myself, otherwise I would be prosecuted, will it still affect benefits, at all? If not, does anyone know under which clause this would fall, should my bank statements be looked at?
Thanks

I am sure this may have been asked before, I am currently on ssp of £85 a week following a fall backwards down my stairs then compounding damage to my back from that fall by slipping on the ice a week later when posting sick note to work, I have been off work approx 2 months now and not sure when dr will pass me fit to go back to work.
Is there any help I can get on top of ssp to get me through this hopefully short period as beginning to worry about money or lack of it to cover the bills and I do not have many other than utilities and mortgage and of course dreadful habit of eating - which I am trying to curtail plus my car which with out which I cannot get around at the moment, all beit very short journys as cannot sit for too long.
I have tried the gov site calculator and find the whole thing confusing,

I am currently claiming child tax credits only because i don't work enough hours to claim working tax credits. My employer have just offered me some extra hours which would then give me enough to claim wtc . What i want to know is,do the tax credit people contact my employer to.confirm the increase in my hours ? As surwly if not, people could just lie just to claim wtc

HELP
We lived overseas for about ten years and returned to live permanently here in the uk in February 2011, on arriving back in the uk we claimed working tax credits from april 2011 when I started work in a 30 hour a week position on 10K per year. as we have 4 kids we had a generous WTC and CTC as I had only earned 8K in the previous tax year overseas.
In April 2012 we renewed our claim and this time it was based on the 10K I had earned in the previous year and we received £270 per week combined credits on a forecast of earning 10K again in the current tax year but in october 2012 I moved house and job and informed HRMC of the change and also updated my estimate for the current year up to 16K so a rise of 6K, to our suprise our weekly payments actually rose by £5 per week, I believe this was due to the disregard.
We are really worried that we will not get tax credits in the coming tax year as we have been overpaid in the current year. We have heard nothing from HRMC and need to do our monthly budgeting for the year to come and as the renewal date is little more than a month away we need some clarity.
Has anyone got any good news for us. advice?

Hi
Has anybody ever heard of this, when i came home today there was a letter on the door mat, this is what it said
" A visiting officer from the benefits assessment service called to see you today, but no contact was made. The visiting officer called to see you to conduct a review of your housing/council tax benefit.
We need you to get in touch with us, as son as possible, so that a visit can be arranged and a successful review can be completed."
I do live in a two bedroom flat, but my partner has a carer come when i am at work, i spoke to someone at the council about "the bedroom tax" and thet said just get a letter from the doctor, which i did.
Anyone any ideas what they will do and want??
Thanks in advance

hi , just a quick thread i would like some feedback on please members.
me and my wife are employed . . but she has recently had our 2nd child and is on maternity leave . . . i am still working but on a fixed term contract which is due to expire in may 2013.
if i am not kept on(likely) i was interested to see if i could take a year+ out to be a stay at home dad but how would tax credits be affected.
could these queries please be advised on -
1. am i right in assuming that if i wasnt employed my wife would still be classed from a tax credit point of view as employed even though she is now on maternity ?? (she is returning to work after maternity btw)
2. we qualify for wtc + ctc's, if i have read the tax credit info correct the threshold for earnings is £6420 . . and once earnings go over this threshold the element amounts start to reduce ??
advice greatfully received , thanks.

I have always payed agreed child maintenance for my son. Last year (2012) I called the CSA and asked when I should end the payments and they said that as he was doing A levels then I should stop on his 19th birthday. His 19th Birthday was 26th January 2013 and so I did not make payment for this month (February). His mother texted me explaining that I have not payed for this month to which I replied that child maintenance stops on the 19th birthday. I began doubting this and did some research and now can see on some web sites that maybe the age has increased to 20?
This has come as a big shock as we had taken advice last year from the CSA.
He is hopefully starting University later this year after his A levels.
Could somebody please let me know if what I have been told is still correct and if not, when do I continue paying until???
Thanks in advance.
