LHA question - non-dependant adult son

Hi
I hope some one can clear this up please, as I'm not sure what to advise. Bit complicated for my brain cell!

A friend's son of 23 has been sleeping on his sofa for the past 2 weeks having split up with his girlfriend. Dad hasn't told the council as he's not sure how long the arrangement will last (not a good idea I know).

Both are in receipt of JSA. Son is still listed at his old address.

As far as I can work out from info online, there should only be a non-dependant deduction if son is on contribution based JSA - he isn't.

I suggested, if they are going to continue living together, that they try and rent as joint tenants so that they both have a seperate LHA entitlement. Not sure that's right either!

What would be the best for them if they were to rent a 2 bed? Just dad as tenant or both? Understandably, dad is worried what will happen if son and girlfriend get back together.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.
