Better off to work or not...help!

I hope someone may be able to help.
I suffer from anxiety and mild agoraphobia and have been for many many years. My husband suffers from clinical depression. I care for him and his mum. At the moment I receive carers allowance (as his mum lives with us and has alzheimers) and I receive DLA and a small amount of income support. My husband, at the moment, receives ESA separately. I think this will change in April whereby I will be receiving income support for both of us.
I might be offered a job which is very close by, working 16 hours. My husband has said that he doesn't wish for me to work because it could affect his benefits! He has been pretty selfish about this, said he won't support me or even talk to me. I see this as a way for me to build my confidence (I am very isolated, I have no family and hardly any friends due to my anxiety) and it isn't about the money but trying to interact with people and getting something of a life! He doesn't even think of that...and I don't think his depression should be an excuse. I think he wants me to stay at home.
I believe it would have to change to working tax credit but does anyone know how the benefits will be affected as a married couple? Housing benefit as well? He said he wouldn't even fill in any forms! He is angry at the moment. And I think it is to do with control too.
I'm not sure if I'd be entitled to the back to work credit. I was investigated for fraud as someone malicious reported me before Xmas but they discovered nothing was amiss so benefits were reinstated. It took a few months though. I received carers allowance, however, during this time, and DLA.
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
