Hi I am hoping somebody can help me understand why I have a tax credit overpayment.
In the tax year 2011/2012 I was working 16 hours and earned £7500
In 2012/2013 both me and my partner worked 16 hours and 14 hours I rang the tax credits immediately and let them know of our changes and estimated a joint income of £13435 for that tax year, as I wanted to make sure there was no overpayments.
I recently completed my end of year tax credits form and between us we had only earned £11060 in 2012/2013, today I received my final decision letter and I owe them £1253.42.
There is no information regarding why I owe them this money it just says they will take it from future payments, I don't understand how I owe them this money all my past letters show the correct information and the updates from when my partner started work which was the middle of April and the new estimated income.
Have they based last years payments from my 11/12 income? I assumed they would base the claim for 12/13 on the new estimate I had given them to make sure an overpayment didn't happen.
