Is there anything we can claim?

My husband is displaying the symptoms of early-onset of Parkinson's Disease but, without going into too much detail, his symptoms could be due to a number of other things, which neurologists are looking into at present. This process of elimination is likely to take a long time until a proper diagnosis is made.

He was recently made redundant from a 2-day-a-week job, which he could just about cope with, and we’re at a loss as to what (if anything) he may be entitled to claim. The Job Centre have advised him to apply (for a third time, long story!), so he can see a Disability Advisor, but not sure this would be appropriate as I really don’t think he should be seeking a job at the moment with his deterioration in health. His doctor has suggested we get advice re. benefits : I thought about ESA, but I’m aware it’s not easy to get and he has no proper diagnosis as yet and isn’t likely to have for sometime, so not sure he’d be eligible?

Our income is low as I don’t work due to ill health, but we wouldn’t be eligible for income support and other means-tested benefits (as far as I know) as we have savings.

I’d be grateful for any advice
