separating from my husband and dont know where to start

Hi there

A friend recommended that I post on here as i'm totally confused as to what I can claim and how to go about it.

I have 2 children under the age of 12 and work 12 hours a week for minimum wage, I suffer from MS but am able bodied and capable of working, i'm applying for higher paid jobs but there are very few out there at the moment, it was suggested that I give up work but I dont want to do that as I like to think that I can contribute to my family. I am currently living in the house we rent together but need to go somewhere smaller as the rent is very high and the landlord doesnt accept dss.

My husband and I have parted amicably and he will continue to support me until I sort myself out but is on a low wage and needs to find somewhere himself.

I've input my details onto the turn to us website and according to them should recieve about £1000 in total in tax credits housing benefit and top ups but I find it hard to believe that I would get that much on 12 hours a week, can anyone in a similar situation confirm that this is correct.

In regards to the house I am looking for something smaller in the private sector & my husband will provide a deposit and my first months rent until i'm sorted and can put in a claim but i'm confused as to how the housing benefit is paid & what happens if the landlord doesnt accept dhss payments.

I wouldnt be claiming from the dhss until i'm in the new house and our current landlord doesnt accept dhss so I cant claim for now

If anyone here can help make the process clearer for me I would be really grateful.
