Evening all.I received a letter from HMRC stating that when we were married we received an overpayment of £357 for child tax credit up to when I left in july 2011...we got divorced in november.It was a demand from the HMRC debt collecting for half the amount.The thing is...I knew the wife was getting child tax benefit...I didn't know how much, she dealt with it...and the tax credit went into her bank account.I feel aggrieved at having to pay half of this as I just think she's stitched me up once more.Have I got to pay this ? I called the debt company and was more or less press ganged into setting up a DD to pay it off over a year....they said if I didn't pay the debt would be ongoing and my credit would suffer.I'm struggling enough as it is without this.Any ideas...suggestions ?
