Hello
I'm a 30 year old, single man with no kids, living at home with my parents and would like to move out by the end of the year, or by this time next year.
At the moment I'm unemployed just starting the claim for JSA, will hopefully have another job soon.
Had a look at some local flats to rent, the cheapest studio apartment is £130 a week in my area and the average price for a 1 bedroom flat is £882pcm. I don't want to live in shared accommodation.
I will most likely be earning minimum wage in whatever job I get, probably £250 a week before tax/ni.
I was self employed last year and received aprox £5000 wages before tax [at 20%, I've had a refund] I've never received working tax credits as far as I know, unless the refund counts as that.
Just used the turn2us benefits calculator, I entered £5000 for last years earnings in the box 'Earnings before tax and national insurance (2012/13):'
In the section 'Is your income this year (2013/14):?' I've selected +£4000 speculatively as I don't know how much I'll earn yet.
I then get this.
Final tax working credit £52.08pw
Next my shared accommodation allowance is £78.46 [being under 35 and single and all I'm entitled to, don't actually want shared accommodation]
So I enter £130pw rent 'actual rent payable' no idea what the council tax band would be seeing as I don't live there, not sure what the discount bit is for either, but a few places I've looked at have been tax band b so I put that with 25% discount which is the default.
£250 a week net earnings... no other savings income etc...
Housing benefit £0.00
Tax credit £52.08pw
So am I not entitled to any housing benefit at all?
Now assuming I'd have earned £12000 last year and it stayed the same this year I'd be entitled to £8.20pw tax credit and no housing benefit
Would that be roughly the same next year and into the future if I earn a steady £12000 a year? Just £8.20pw
Thanks!
