Hi, im 22 years old been made redundant 5 times and had 14 jobs since i was 17.
I want to return to college this year, to better my life and get a career to provide for my family and not be jobless and skint all the time, i have been accepted on the course. I have a partner and a 18 month old son. However jobcentre have told me that by going to college i will not get any money at all except child tax credits and child benefit and housing benefit me and my partner (who will be at uni) will not recieve any jsa or income support or any other money to live off, how are we meant to better our lives if they wont let us go into education. We do not have rich parents who can support us through our education were on our own. What are we meant to live off for for next 2 years? Were not entitled to it because we wont be seeking work apparently according to them, but being in college and university does not stop you looking for part time work does it?
You can look after college, weekends or at 2 in the morning on the internet if you really want to so why not. Only way is if my partner puts off uni for now and we can get couple allowance if if one of you is looking for work, but how is she meant to look for work when she would have to look after our son at home (we get free childcare if were in education). If she got a job her entire wage would go on childcare anyway and plus minimum wage one person working you cannot survive i know because i had to move out our house and live apart when i worked cos i couldnt afford to pay rent my money went to getting to work food and bills there was nothing left to pay rent, so now we live together if she did get a job, how would she pay childcare rent and feed us etc impossible country is a joke there just trying to keep the poor poor. Does anyone know how we can get around this?
Please dont say part time job im already looking for part time job. It not only isnt easy but its even harder to try get one that would be around college hours. You must be able to claim income or something if your at college with a child? They cant expect 3 people to live of child tax credits which only buys nappies and clothes anyway?
