Ok so here is our predicament.

Me, my partner and our little girl were looking for a place to rent that accepted DSS or LHA whatever you call it.

We rang an agent on a property, who said they happily take DSS.

We went and met them and viewed the property.

We were told by one of the aget gents that the current tennants are DSS and £240 per to pay the rent (Which is all of t) and that we would have to pay six weeks rent in advance + 1 months rent as a deposit, plus referencing and inventory.

I have never used LHA before and was informed by the agent that what happens is you pay 6 weeks rent upfront and then when the council pay your first rent, we get to keep it.

Because of the way he explained this i was under the impression that we would pay six weeks up front, live there for one month payed for, then live there another month before the next lot of rent is due.

But it turns out that is not the case.

We have been in the property for 6 weeks now, the council have not even BEGUN the process our claim and yesterday evening the agent rang my partner demanding to know where the rent is (remember me and my partner were both under the impression that it is due june 1st) telling us we are 10 days late and we need to have the money by tomorrow otherwise they will be going after the guarantors (my parents)

Today i contacted the Landlord, and obviously she is not a happy bunny. I am well aware of the fact that we are in the wrong even though the council are behind however she is still demanding the rent and even though my parents are guarantors quite frankly they do not have that kind of money laying around. Never did we believe we would have to call upon the guarantor because we have every intention to pay all our rent.
