Personal Injury Payment & Tax Credits

Any help would greatly be appreciated ... I have recently settled a personal injury claim I will receive the payment in roughly 2 weeks however I do not know what to do in regards to tax credits ?

Do I tell them ?
Do I not tell them ?
Will it affect my award?
Is it treated as incom etc?

I am SO confused ... anyone know ?
