I am getting very worried indeed about what will happen when my husband (seriously visually impaired) is called to move from Incapacity Benefit to ESA. His IB is contributions based, but we don't have any non-benefit income unfortunately, so he would be entitled to income based in theory.
I will not be surprised if they put him into the WRAG group initially and we have to appeal this (he does fit at least one support criteria) and I have done my homework regarding this. I was feeling relatively okay, then started reading about people not getting any rate of ESA if they choose to appeal and that appeals can take many months to be heard.
How do people manage then? Will he get no esa while we appeal and if so will he get income support or similar so that we can still survive? Or have I misunderstood the situation? I can't see how they could be allowed to leave people with no money for months as a punishment for daring to suggest they're wrong, but they seem to get away with so much already that it wouldn't surprise me as much as it once might have done.
