Benefits from GVT during maternity leave?

Hi,

I started working for my company at the end of May and a few weeks later I got pregnant (unplanned). This means that I will only get 6 weeks of maternity pay after I leave work for my maternity leave becuase I haven't been working for the same company for more than 26 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. Are there any benefits in place from the gvt for people in my position? I really wanted to take the whole year off with baby but I can't see how I'm going to be able to manage that finacially.
