Question on benefits, unemployment etc?

Hi,

Firstly may I say both myself and wife are in employment.

A few rumblings about the office that I work at have the 'redundancy' word being branded about.

Just covering myself, I'm very confused about the whole redundancy and benefit side of things.

We have a kid (7).

I've got an idea of a redundancy figure of just nuder £14k, this is just using the basic (I'm 20 years+ in the job, £23k per year, 35 hours per week job).

We don't get any benefits bar the basic child income £20ish per week.

Wife is on £10010 per annum (27.5 hours per week).

I did do the tax and credit check on gov website, although confused why it's asking me my earnings for 2011-2012, which when I enter it says we would not be due any monies even though I would have been out a job for possibly a year

If I put in £0.00 then it says a rate of £43ish per week (made up of tax and working tax).

I didn't put in any income support or such, or would I be entitled to this?

The reason more I ask is we rely on our parents to watch our kids for part of the holidays that we can't cater for, so I could take the responsibility of that if need be.

I have no problem working to tie-in with our kids school, so it ain't a case I want to put the feet up and that's that, but just wondering what benefits are available to us, if known.

Also no health issues with family.

Any relevant information you feel I've missed (which could be a lot :p ) please mention and I'll answer as best I can.

TIA

FD
