I am looking for some advice and I do not know where to post this but it is more about applying for benefits than the house so please bare with me.
I own a house and have an IVA as well as being in negative equity with my property. I have been trying to sell for over a year and have moved agents and lowered the asking price.
My partner lives in a housing association house and is subject to bedroom tax and on a low income combined with being recently registered disabled and now on higher rate DLA. He has a carer that helps him with all his tasks but much is personal care and he much preferes me to do this. My hours keep being dropped and I am struggling to balance paying my mortgage and helping my partner over the other side of town.
I can not give up the house because I part own it with a friend who helped me out. I can't ruin their credit so the house needs to be sold - I maybe able to rent it out but I just don't know yet whether this is possible. I have talked to them and they don't want to live in it as they have another house of their own but won't let me hand the keys back. If it was just me I would let them repossess it.
I understand there is a scheme that will pay your mortgage interest after 13 weeks or something but I don't now if this is true?
Ideally I want to move in with my partner so I can help - his condition is only going to get worse and I want to be his carer. But I can't claim benefits like income support or carers allowance if I own a property can I?
I am so stuck; and heartbroken. Can anyone advise me on what I could do - or some restrictions and rules I may face? I have tried to see CAB but I can't seem to get an appointment at our local office.
