Looking for some housing benefit help. We are a family of 5 and I currently work 24 hours a week, and my partner doesn't work. We obviously claim for the 24 hours. I also play in a band on a weekend. Nothing professional, we get paid a small fee to cover expenses to get to the gigs etc. I have never mentioned this to the housing benefit people because I perhaps stupidly thought I make no money doing it. One of the venues we play at rang us tonight to say they had received a letter asking what our band earned per gig as one member received housing and council tax benefits. They also listed the dates we had played the venue dating back to July last year, so have obviously been watching us for a while. I'm just not sure what to do next. Obviously I'm not meant to know about the letter, but I'm worried I've perhaps made a massive mistake not telling them about it. I usually make a loss at gigs with petrol, New strings, drinks etc., but I have never thought to keep any receipts for any of these. I'm really not sure what to do next and I'm sick with worry. Any help of advice would be good to perhaps settle my mind a little....or cause me to panic more!!!
