Last month my partner announced he found a new job in Dubai, and he was breaking up with me and moving out there. He's been there before on a couple of long business trips, and I think he already met someone else.
I didn't even argue, I was so shocked. He left me some money to pay bills this month, and he said he'll keep paying half the rent on our flat until the tenancy is up, and then he was gone to some hotel until his flight left. With hindsight, he has been acting really distant for a long time and I should have guessed.
That was over three weeks ago. I had to get through the shocked stage and the screaming furious stage before I could even look up this forum. Now I want to start moving on :)
My job is normally just 8 hours a week, because I'm taking two Open University modules. I know I need to sort myself out and get a fulltime job, but could I get any benefits to make up the difference until June, just to finish the modules? They are a lot of work and I'd never have started two if I had any idea what was going to happen. I have some savings, but even just housing benefit would help a lot. I don't think I should claim jobseekers allowance unless I have to, not when I plan to keep on studying.
First of all, I think I need to know if him paying half the rent, which he has to because his name is on the tenancy, means his income will be taken into account in my benefits claim. I don't think he will even tell me what it is to be honest, he was always really private about money. We never had a joint bank account.
Thanks for reading.
