Stopping Voluntary National Insurance Contributions

Hi,

I just phoned the National Insurance Helpline, but said 'additional' instead of 'Voluntary' and didn't get a straight answer. The man at the other end wasn't very helpful at all and kept talking over me.

So I wondered if someone here could advise me please?

I have been paying class 2 Voluntary NI Contributions for a few years, as I am part time self employed, but didn't earn enough to pay standard NI.

I started working 2 years ago in a permanent Job and pay NI through that. (Whilst carrying on with my Self Employment.)

Can I stop paying the Voluntary Contributions? If so do I just cancel the direct debit from my bank.

Can I claim back the Voluntary Contributions (some or all)? Since I have been employed in my job.

Thank you.
