Hi, I have a little problem with claiming for Working Tax Credit. Here is my situation. My husband has been waiting for his Residence Card for more than a year so he was unable to work - no income for 2011-2012 for him ( we were just managing with his savings which are finished now).
I have been self- employed (since 2010) with net income 10.200 £ for 2011-2012.
I'm receiving 80 £ Child Benefit monthly ( one child 13 y old). I work 36 hours weekly, and now my weekly wages are around 200-240 £ ( it's flexible, as some jobs I do are paid higher).
My husband just received his Residence Card ( entitlement to work in the UK) and he registered self-employment recently but his jobs are one- off (handyman ), he works average around 14-18 hours per weeks, sometimes he has no work at all. Will they consider his type of job as regular? He has invoices and adverts and money are coming into his bank account or to hand which he pays to his bank account.
Now we can apply for Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credir basing on my income for 2011-2012, I know, and claim pack is on its way.
The problem is, my husband wants to find now full time job and wanted to register in Job Centre -as it's easier?. They told him he has first claim Jobseekers Allowance and then register. My husband hasn't registered for it yet.
Now, my question is, what is better, to stay on self-employment ( my husband and I) and claim WTC and CTC, as more jobs are coming for him ( but these are not constant and one week is painting for 300 £ and next week nothing ),but we would get every month money for WTC and CTC or just take JSA , register in Job Centre and try his luck with searching for job?
Will we still get any benefits while my husband is on JSA?( as I know JSA is around 70 £ weekly). We don't know if he will be successful in finding full time job , and JSA is lower than our estimated WTC and CTC ( I only used calculator online).
If anyone knows what would be better for us, please, give some suggestions. My husband wants to work, but his job coming and going so we want to have some constant money in our household.
