We are wanting to start our own business, but we are not sure how much call we will get for it and how much we will earn so we want to have a chance with it and see how it goes
I have a part time job, 15 hours a wee, which brings me in roughly £99.
Because we're a couple and my partner isn't claiming any benefits, we get housing benefit to help with the rent.
My partner can't wor due to illness, but we don't want to claim benefits if we can avoid it, which is why I don't claim tax credits either.
If I declare myself self employed, and I start my business as well as the part time job, how would housing benefit calculate what they give us?
At the minute with just my job we get the full amount of Housing available to us (This doesn't cover our rent though as our rent is higher than the LHA for our area so we still put money towards every time)
With the business Everytime I get a Job, and I earn lets assume £100 a time, do we ring housing benefit up and tell them every time? Or at the end of the month?
Do we tell them how much we got, for example £100 or do we minus the busines costs, so for each £100 we get paid we minus for example £40 in costs so do we just declare the £60 profit?
We want to be sure we inform them of all our earnings correctly, so they do not overpay us and land us with a bill.
And how much can you earn a month before they start to deduct it from your benefits?
At the moment we as a couple get the full amount available because we only earn £99 each week
It sounds awful but I already have a part time job, My partner can't work and if I am working another job to earn money, just for them to deduct it from the housing benefit that I already get, I'd be doing all those extra hours for nothing.
I appreciate anybody's help :)
