Ok so in 2007 my son was born and I was working, I decided to pay directly to the parent in cash. CSA then said I did not notify them of this and had to pay what I already did to them. Ok so my fault not keeping proof of payment so I took it on the chin and payed them (so I payed double). Then I was getting lumps taken out my bank, I went to CAB in 2007 and this got refunded and I was told I would be re-asessed and someone would be in touch - 5 month later, BAM, a letter about arrears for around £600. I contacted and asked they explained the amount and I said but I am no longer in work, they said, we were not notified, I said yes you were I even had someone speak on my behalf from CAB.
Then again told it was to be re-asessed, months later, same letter :S...so then I made volountary payments to clear this debt, which had been paid twice before !
Since 2007 I have not heard a sqeak from CSA, now January 2013 I receive letters following a phone call from December 2012 - I forgot to notify them of 1 months work in 2011 so providied payslips and thought I would pay around £100-£150 for that month (arrears) as ever since I had made payments.
Then the letters - souded like a brick posted through my door, five of them each with same thick booklet explaining CSA (didn't see the section on them been incompetent thieves).
So I called up to pay this what I thought £100-£150 arrear of work I forgot to mention. They said I owe them £1000+...I said where has that come from....suprise suprise "2007-2008" after arguing my case all I got from this lady (or robot, I couldn't tell) was that "it's not in our notes" "we were not notified" "legislation back then, blah blah blah"
Also she said I did not qualify for deduction as I do not see my child ! PFT ! I said I see my son quite regular and it more than meets your 52 week average for this deduction. (Typical using the absent father stereotype)
Again, it was not in the robot's, I mean this womans notes :S.
Do they actually keep any record of anything that would support me ? or just what favours them ?
I even took an orinigal hard copy of a letter to CAB in 2007, which they had no copy of, good job I had CAB backing me up to get some refund in 2007 !
I have today contacted CAB and they have found a transcript of what took place in 2007, which hopefully does say they were notified ! Also I filled out a form way back also clearly stating on how often I see my son, so why is this not in their so called "notes".
Any advice on this ?
They told me to write a letter if I disagree.
I am currently a student, so as for payments to clear a debt that should not be, out of the question, I am not paying this robbing, useless government department that costs more to run than it reclaims in maintanence.
All I have read is bullying stories, why don't they go after absent parents that are never there or support their child in any way what so ever.... final question... Do I and the child's mother even have to use this soul-less, idiotic department ?
Can I just not pay her directly or we even had the idea of putting the payments into an account for the child for when they are 18/21. So we know where it actually goes !
MP's expense scandal - hundred of thosuand - more even robbed out of tax payers pockets - jail ? NO
Me - paying double, triple, quadrouple of same arrear due to faults in CSA system, do i face endless letters, threats, courts, possibly jail ? YES :S
