working tax credits mistake???

just made a claim for working tax credits and child tax credits and been awarded £39 a month and i think it may be wrong does anybody know about the benefots because ive never claimed befor and i know people in similar situations to me get about £80 a week!

me and my wife are both 28 and been working constantly for the last 10 years besides myself who had about 6 weeks on job seekers about 3 years ago when i lost my job.

we have just had our first child who is now 4 months old

i have a child from a previouse relationship and paying maintenance

we get £82 a month child benefit

my wages £16000 per year 39 hour week
my wifes wages £9000 per year 39 hour week Currently only £126 a week maternity pay

we get absolutly no other benefits like houseing or council tax benefits

we pay £126 a month council tax
£400 a month private rent
£200 a month gas/electric
£200 a month child maintenace for my 9 year old lad
plus other bills like food, phones, tv license, travel costs

i used the working tax calcualtor on hmcr website which says we will get £39 a month which seems a little low to me considering we have both paid tax and ni for the last 10 years and claimed nothing

i watched a programme on tv last week called skint and one women whos never worked gets her rent and council tax paid every month and £1600 cash in the bank every month!!!

how can it be fair that people who work hard all their live struggle to live and those scroungers like her get every thing?!?!?! all it says to people is toss work off and youll be loads better

sorry for ranting just wondered if any one else thinks that maybe the calculator may be wrong thanks for reading
