Hi. I recently found out I'm expecting (complete surprise) and am panicking about how we can survive during maternity leave. I have worked all my life and am not familiar with benefits. My partner has been out of work the last two months but is applying for dozen of jobs daily. He is going to move in with me after the baby is born -I have been told will get his job seekers cut. I am panicking he may not be able to get full time employment. I was be on full pay for 6 weeks and after it I researched that I will get the basic maternity of £130.00 per week plus £20.32 in child benefits. I've managed to consolidate my credit cards to one payment of £225 a month (which is half what i was paying) and my rent is £200. Leaving me with the grand sum of £176 for a month. I've looked into tax credits and it does seem viable to get these based on my maternity leave income? I earn 20k including bonuses so don't think i would get them normally? Does anyone have a ball pack figure for how much tax credits is? I really don't know if its £2 a week or £20? Can I get help with rent from house ex. when on maternity?
