I am currently renting a property which I live in. I have just completed on the purchase of a property which is being renovated and I will be moving in there by the end of June.
I contacted my local council tax authority about the empty property discount which I was told they no longer do, which is fair enough.
I live alone and get the single person discount on the property I am renting. I then requested this to be allocated to the new property now as I will be living alone once the work is done and was told I cant have the single person allowance on two properties as I cant live in two properties. So I have to pay full CTB on the second property and 75% on the original.
Is it me or is this nonsensical?
Can I claim it the extra back once I have moved in and can prove it is only me living there and always intended it to be that way?
