Myself and my husband had a joint claim for JSA which started on 1st January 2013. In the letter of confirmation it stated that my part was contribution based and my husband's income based.
Luckily my husband found work and started on 1st May. I had to fill in a ridiculously long form to see if I could still get JSA. I went to sign on last Friday and was told I am not entitled to any money but I can sign to get National Insurance contributions. There is no reason for me to do this as I have 40 years contributions already which is enough for me to get full pension (although the staff member at the Job Centre did not know this).
I queried why I was not entitled to JSA on my own but the staff member was no use whatsoever.
When I filled in the form I said that my husband is only working an average of 20 hours a week and, as he is self employed, we cannot be sure what his wages will be but they will be fairly low at least for a while.
