Help Please. Work and Benefits.

Hi there.

I am out of work and currently receive JSA on behalf of me, my partner and my daughter and Housing Benefit.

Today ive found out that i have got a job, working varied hours as self employed, im vehs ry happy, its been a tough few months and it didnt seem like i was getting anywhere.

However my partner and her family seem to think i should not take the job as i will end up worse of in the long run?

I dont see how this is possible? Surely the system cannot be so bad that i am better of sitting in doors bored then actually going out and getting a job.

Will i be better of if i turn the job down?
What happens to the job seekers, im aware that i can work a certain amount of hours without it effecting however my partner claims they will stop the housing benefit and that the child tax credit she recieves would change to working tax credit which would be less then she currently recieves.
Im so confused, however im told that im better of turning it down??
Id like point out that i am actually looking to be employed and not a stay at home bum.
