My friend has a hair dressing salon and has said that if I want something to put on my CV I could go in on her busy days to make cups of tea for clients, sweep up etc
I will not be paid, there is no actual job vacancy and I won't get anything in return.
The leaflet in the jobcentre states -
This is when you choose to give your time
and energy to benefit other people without
being paid for it. You could do voluntary
work with any kind of organisation,
including:
• a charity, voluntary organisation or
community group
• a public-sector organisation, like your
local council
• a social enterprise supporting your local
community, or
• a local business.
It’s not volunteering if you:
• help out a family member
• are given money apart from your
expenses, or
• are under contract to do it (this does not
include any ‘volunteer agreement’ you
may have).
You may be given expenses and, in some
cases (for example, if you’re volunteering
full-time), you may also get a small
subsistence allowance for food or travel or
both.
If you’re getting State benefits, you can be
a volunteer and, in nearly all cases, your
benefits will not be affected. However, there
are some cases where your benefits can
be affected } for example, if you get a
subsistence allowance or if you’re doing
what someone else would normally be paid for.
However when I spoke to the people on the help desk I was told that I would lose benefit if I volunteered as it isn't for a charity but I could go through Ingeus as a work trial.
So I really do not understand, their own leaflet says one thing and the staff I spoke to say another thing.
It is so frustrating as I am trying to do what I can to get my CV updated and updated references but the Jobcentre don't make it easy at all.
