Housing benefit - is it paid in arrears?

In my partners previous job we received £55 per week in housing benefit. Our last payment was 19th April. We are paid fortnightly.

My partner started a new job on April 16th, which has reduced our entitlement to £22 per week.

Our next payment is due on the 3rd of May, but is it paid in arrears? or will the payment be around £44?

I only ask because my partner did not start the better paying job till half way through the month, and he has been put on an emergency tax code, so were struggling at the moment with the change in jobs. I just didn't know whether we would be paid the £110 as usual then be paid the £44 after that. (assuming the housing benefit pay 2 weeks behind)
