Hi, I've been working since Aug 2011.
I think I'm due a tax refund.
For tax year 2011-2012, it says on my payslip tax code 747L, which I think is an emergency tax code. On my March 2012 payslip it says that in year 11-12 I earnt approx. £6000 and paid about £200 N.I.
I called the tax office and enquired about this. They told me I wasn't due any tax rebate for 2011-12. But, as I understand it, I am entitled to a rebate of £200 because my gross income was well below the £7470 'Personal Allowance'.
For year 12-13, my employer gave me tax code 810L - again an emergency tax code.
When I asked about 12-13, he said I would be automatically rebated once my employer files my P60; given that this didn't happen for 2011-12, I'm obviously concerned about 2012-13.
In future, what tax code should I be on?
What should I do to ensure I get my tax rebate automatically next time?
Thx.
