My 11 year old son is profoundly disabled and we receive Direct Payments to fund his respite care (which we organise ourselves). As my son is under 18, his payments are paid into an account in our name and we pay on his behalf. The account that they are paid into is only used for his Direct Payments. As he is paid yearly, this is a large sum and having read elsewhere on this forum that savings need to be in the child's name and not be accessible by the parents, I am worried that this will be a problem for us as even though these are not savings, they are in our name (although they are paid re our sons name by Social Services on payment paperwork). His Social Worker has said that as he is under 18 we cannot have the payments paid into an account in his name and manage it on his behalf (not sure why, though).
Do you think that this may be a problem, or am I looking for something to worry about(!)?
