Hi, Not sure if anyone can offer advice but last week I got a letter out of the blue from the Social fund about a claim I made in 2008 for a Funeral Payment.
I applied for this when my daughter died and they overlooked the section were I had put down what they class as 'Other Costs'. They paid a partial amount for the rest.
I re-applyed and put that I wanted them to look at it again as they had overlooked this part, and I never heard back from them. I made countless phonecalls over the weeks to be left on hold for hours and wrote to them and then I eventually gave up thinking they not got my letters and the 3 month time period for applying had elapsed.
Have to point out that my head wasnt in the right place to be pursuing it any more at ther time which is why I gave up.
Last Monday I recieved a letter saying that I had asked them to look into the decision in 2008 and they had now decided they had underpayed me and I would be recieving this payment.
I rang them and they had no knowledge of this letter or this decision and asked me to send a copy to an address that was actually the address on the letter they had sent me.
I queried that they must know a letter was sent from thier department but they did'nt.
I sent the copy and every time I ring they say there is nothing on the system other then the fact I am sending a copy of a letter. They wont forward me to anyone that can help me and cant say if I am to recieve payment and wont find out if my copy arrived.
Is it normal for the Social fund to take so long to make a decision and does anyone know if they are likely to send a letter saying you are entitled to something then decide that you are not.
Thanks Amanda
