I have luckily never been in a position where I needed to call on the benefits system and as such I have no clue as to how it works. Can any of you lovely people advise?
Scenario:
Middle aged bloke, worked without any gaps in employment since he left school. Paid plenty into the system. Made redundant a year ago and hasn't yet found a permanent job. JSA ran out 6 months ago and since then he's received nothing.
Bloke owns a property which is rented out on long lease and generates a small income. Said income, if divided up by minimum wage rates would equate to a 25 hour week. He does a Self Assessment tax retun and pays tax on the rental income, all above board and tickety-boo.
Can he claim Working Tax Credits on the basis that his 'job' is as a professional Landlord and he works 25 hours a week??
