Hi all
I'm sure you've been asked this before, sorry.
My Mother is in sheltered accommodation run by a Housing Association, she is 76 and she lives alone in a 1 bedroomed flat and claims housing benefit.
She received a letter yesterday from the Local Authority saying that as a single person she is under occupying her flat as she needs 0 bedrooms. She has been told that her new housing benefit will be reduced by 14%.
Am I wrong in thinking that the benefit reductions were meant to be applied to people of "working age" only? Is there a valid "0 bedrooms" requirement and lastly, is a housing association classified as a private landlord?
Many thanks
