Benefit entitlement when employer's sick pay runs out?

A friend of mine experienced a terrible bereavement in August 2012. She was and is so shaken that leaving the house for her is a major challenge that she only undertakes if she has to. She has a substantive role and had worked for 20 hours per week. She has been unable to return to work because of mental health issues that directly relate to her bereavement; see above and barely able to leave her own home.

So my friend's sick pay will run out soon. My question is, can she claim for any benefits once her sick pay runs out? Her husband works in a full time job.
