I'm going to the Jobcentre on Monday about something else and plan to seek advice but I thought I'd ask here as well.
About my circumstances: I'm claiming income-related ESA for mental health reasons, although I am now seeking work, after a discussion with my personal adviser. For the past few years I have been living back at home and I actually think that getting my own flat would help greatly with my issues (depression and social phobia). I've been on the list for a council property for about one and a half years now. I got a letter a few months back suggesting I consider also searching in the private sector, which I have decided to do now.
At the moment, this is only viable if I am entitled to Housing Benefit or similar. How do I go about this. Do I contact private landlords and then apply for housing benefit if we agree terms?
