I'm a single parent (child aged 12) and am self-employed but only earning approx £20 a week so have decided to wrap up the business as I am so heavily reliant on benefits still.
During the process I've been looking at the possibility of further training courses to increase the chances of employment for me and I may have found a course which would be building on qualifications I already have, in an area of work I love but I have no idea what would happen to me regarding benefits/income!
I last claimed unemployment benefits in Jan 2011, which is when I signed off and became self employed after the job centre told me that the course I wanted to do (which is the course I've found) is no longer available and I had to find a job.
Can anyone give me any advice as to what would happen if I was to go to the job centre, inform them I've found a training course but I have no income so would like to claim income-based JSA? Would I be expected to look for work or would the training course count towards what they expect me to do??
