Returning to work,which benefits?

Will keep this brief,hubby had been disabled since spinal operation went horribly wrong,new spinal fusion has him up on his feet and smiling for the first time in years and wanting to return to work,he still has trouble walking due to weak leg muscles but is getting there.Would he be entitled to return to work tax credits and the disabled element of working tax credits or anything else?
