Housing benefit and compensation

Hey all, so today I banked a cheque I received for personal injury compensation. The cheque was for £1000. My question is that I am receiving housing benefit (do work but single parent on low income) so is this something I have to declare (not a problem if so) and is it going to have an effect on what I receive??

Also, for the past few months, the csa have managed to claw maintainance from my childrens father, (varies from £40 a month to £150 a month) I was under the impression that this is not used to calculate housing benefit and yet I was talking to a friend who is under a different council that states that it is to be used? It's never a regular amount, I have no payment schedule that states what I am or will be getting, I just wait to see what the text message from them says I will be getting. Thanks all xx
