Hi. Im current;y working 12 hours a week. My wife works 30. Both minimum wage of £6.20. Our hours fluctuate every week say give or take 10 hours (mostly take 10 hours). We get on top working Tax Credits of £60 A week. Ultimately we get a maximum of £320 a week.
Our Rent is £145 & C/Tax is £38 a week.
We tried to claim Housing and Council Tax Benefit, but because after paying our FULL rent and Full Council Tax leaves us with the legal limit for 2 people to live on roughly £111 a week (approx), we couldn't get it. :(
Basically each week we have to live on £110 but can be as low as £90. On top of this me and my wife have to pay £20 a week Each to get to work, which leaves us with only about £60 a week sometimes.
We are struggling BIG time. The Job Centre said they cant help with Fares to work etc. Now our savings are gone, we cannot afford to get to work, due to having to eat and keep warm.
Would giving up work to claim JSA, and saying NOT being able to afford to get to work be a legitimate excuse to sign on?
We are really desperate for any help anyone can give us.
Cheers!
