Is Appealing Worth it?

I informed tax credits that my dd was beginning an apprenticeship in september. I have just been contacted to say that even though that notification is on their records they have realised that they have overpayed me and want over £2000 back.

The advisor on the helpline suggested I appeal.

Is there any chance of this being successful?

I am on a very tight budget and will find repayment extremely difficult.
