Good Evening,
My husband and I separated this week :(
I called the HMRC to make a new claim for WTC and CTC, we've not claimed for them before as hubby is on a pretty decent salary.
I've been on the benefits calculator (yougov) and so far, I'd been putting only my income for the last 2 financial years. Am I supposed to put in the household income which includes hubbys up until the date we separated?
There is a significant different between the amounts - if I include his income, I will be awarded 0.00! If I start the claim now and only declare what I earned which is next to nothing as I was a housewife and Mummy for the majority of that time, then I'm eligible for the credit.
Hubby says that if I make the claim now, and then re-claim after the new tax year starts then I'll be entitled to more then than what I will be now if I declare our entire households income for the last 2 years.
I don't want to fill out my forms incorrectly and owe money next year, so please any advice would be greatly appreciated.
