So I started a job a few months back after being on JSA for a few weeks - I was at Uni before that. Anyway, was late in handing my p45 from the job centre to my employer so I was over-taxed for the first 2 months.
I was under the impression that once my tax code was corrected, I would get this money back with my wages - had 2 phone calls with HMRC telling me so. Phoned again last week but apparently I need to get a P45U form from the job centre and send it to hmrc and then I will get my tax back.
Probably being stupid here but which part of P45 is P45U? Job centre sent me p45 ages ago, but I gave parts 2 and 3 to my employer and I have 1A, which I am to keep. Is 'P45U' something different?
Also annoying as I can't get to job centre to ask about it because I am at work during their open hours and can't find an email address for them.
Any help would be appreciated.
