Housing benefit from April

I agree in part to this. But there are so many different situations. i have a 2 bed terrace house, my son is in foster care. I will pay the extra that i need to. What the housing people said is if my son was staying some of the time you can apply for a discretionary payment.

I live in a house in which even my housing people said a few years ago they would not offer this to families as it is extremely small. There is no way you can have 2 children in the same room as all you can fit is a bunkbed, wardrobe and drawers. No physical room to play. They offered it to me as i was single. Only a back yard. i am not complaining as my bills are low due to the size.

I phoned my housing to inquire about a 1 bed but they said they were not available. I am going to put my name down as my son (16) would be happy to sleep on sofa.

I think people need to know that you can apply for a discretionary payment towards rent. I will pay the extra and the council tax, whatever they decide. It will be hard.

What gets me is that when you get the letter about your benefits, they put what they say you can live on for your circumstances but obviously if you pay the extra rent and council tax, this will go below this!

I am not complaining about it as i understand why they are doing it. But they should stop the MP's getting help with '2nd property!' And let them live on the minimum wage!!!
