Friends son has been out of work for about 8 weeks and is setting up his own business as a s/e builder, the job centre have helped him via the enterprise allowance scheme and he getting a 26 week run on on his JSA and a £1000 loan. He had his last meeting today at the job centre and the lady mentioned a back to work grant of £100 but he would need to go see her colleague in Remploy, he went and was asked if he was disabled, no he's not, so the lady said that he must be suffering from stress since he was trying to set up on his own so she will grant him the £100. Now I'm not the most savvy about benefits but surely it's got to be harder than this to get your hands on the cash, surely the advisor has to follow procedures or make sure the applicant actually qualifies?
