ESA for myself, partner and 4 old stopped with no notice?

Hi, needing some advice regarding ESA...
- We have been on ESA for a year and a half I think, the main claimant is my partner & he claims for myself and our 4 year old daughter too. We were expecting a payment on the 31st but it was not in, we got a letter that morning dated the 26th November telling us that my partner failed the work capability assessment which he went to in November and this had stopped him of entitlement as from the 11th January.
I can not believe we got a letter a week late telling us this on our expected pay date. We rung ESA main number and the man was useless making no sense, he said if we send in a appeal form then as soon as they receive it at the office they will release a payment which is at the assessment rate.
Does anyone know if this information is correct and if it literally is when they receive appeal? I don't know what to do if that isn't the case, we have bills to pay, needing a food shop and for example on my gas meter it has run out of credit in the night so it is freezing in the house this morning.
My partner is a ex Grenadier Guard and he detests being on benefits at all, but the last 2 years he has been in and out of psychosis and suffering severe depression, he can't work whilst on the medication he is on, in my words it acts like a tranquilizer.

Any advice would be appreciated, we live 10 miles from the DWP office that sent the letter about the claim, if it is the case that we will get a payment instantly once they log it in then I will deliver in person tomorrow so I know they have got it!
Thank you xx
