Incorrect details

Not so much a question more for information and to see if anybody else has had similar experience. Its a bit long winded but please bear with me. I tried calling the tax credit helpline to ask for a claim pack, I was greeted with three questions Name, DOB and NI number. I gave my answers and was told that these did not match the details held by them go away check your details and call back. I called my company payroll and they verified my NI number, the other two answers I obviously know to be correct. I called back and again was greeted by the same three questions which again I got wrong, I questioned the operator how this could be as my name and DOB have never changed and I had my NI number verified. He told me he couldnt tell me the details I had gotten wrong but... did I have anything else with my NI number on it not from my employer. He then went on to give me the NI helpline number. I called them explaining the situation so far and they have now arranged an interview to prove my identity etc. They have provided a list of things to bring along to the interview. While digging through piles of old papers to find these items I have found pay slips P60's P45's dating back to at least 1996 and even my old battered and tattered paper NI card which dates back to 1983 all with the number I quoted. I now have to attend an interview armed with all this documentation so that I can prove to them I was right in the first place. The best bit of it all is that I probably wont even qualify for child tax credit anyway.
